Purpose of Expansion

This one just adds more to the game in the form of new ship powers and new kinds of missions. 

The Additions

There are new ship power cards for every ship so now at the beginning of a game you can choose which power card to go with your ship which adds more variability to the game. Also there is a slight rules tweak with these abilities that you can activate them more than once every turn whereas the old abilities you had to flip over to denote it being used. 

There are 32 new mission cards in total with 8 each of 4 new types: Transport, Assist, Counterfeit and Boom! You are meant to just shuffle these in with the ever growing stack of mission cards to give the game more variety in that area as well. 

The Changes

No real rule changes other than the multiple use of ability cards during a turn. 

Final Thoughts

More flavor is always good for a great game. I enjoy having a broader selection of missions to keep my games fresh with new things to focus on. And the choice of ship abilities is always welcome although it’s still up in the air just how powerful some of these abilities are and if they are balanced. 

All that being said I don’t consider this expansion to be an essential expansion and you can for sure live without it, but for those die hard Xia fans you will probably want to add this one to your collection.
